PQR and WPQR management software for welding procedure qualifications

Qualify a procedure once. Use it every time.

A procedure qualification record is the proof behind every WPS — and often the hardest document to find. weldXpert keeps all your PQRs and WPQRs searchable and traceable, and turns them into new WPS documents with a few clicks.

Expensive to make, hard to find

Qualifying a welding procedure costs time and money: test pieces are welded and witnessed, tested in a laboratory and documented in a record. That record — the PQR under ASME Section IX, the WPQR under the ISO 15614 series — is what entitles you to write WPSs for production.

Yet in many companies these records end up as scanned PDFs in a folder structure that only one person understands. When a new job comes in, the question “do we already have a PQR that covers this?” turns into an afternoon of opening files and comparing material groups, thicknesses and processes. Sometimes the answer is a new, unnecessary qualification.

weldXpert treats your PQRs as data, not as files — so you can search them, compare them and build on them.

Find the right PQR in seconds

Every PQR in weldXpert is stored with its values. Instead of opening documents one by one, you filter the list by material, thickness or other values and see straight away which qualified procedures are candidates for the job in front of you.

The PQR list: filter by material, thickness or values instead of opening PDFs.

The final decision stays with your welding engineer or coordinator — weldXpert puts the relevant records and values side by side so that decision takes minutes, not hours.

Let the PQR fill the WPS

Once you have picked the PQR, weldXpert uses it to fill the new WPS automatically. The values that were qualified are carried over, so nobody retypes them from a scan, and the link between WPS and PQR is stored with the document.

  • PQR → WPS matching
  • Automatic WPS filling from PQR data
  • Filter by material and thickness
  • Full traceability by client and project
  • Saves hours per WPS
  • ISO, ASME IX and AWS D1.1 selectable

Traceable for audits and clients

Every procedure qualification is stored with its client and project, and you can show which WPSs are based on it. When an auditor, a notified body or a client asks for the qualification behind a WPS, you open it from the WPS instead of searching for it.

Colleagues who only need to look things up can use the doc viewer, a read-only tree of clients, projects and welders where every WPS, PQR and certificate is one click away.

Existing records are not lost when you start: our support team imports your existing data during onboarding, and billing only starts once your account is fully set up.

PQR or WPQR — the same record, two names

Under ASME Section IX the record of a procedure qualification test is the PQR (Procedure Qualification Record). In the ISO system — ISO 15614-1 for arc welding of steels and nickel alloys — it is the WPQR (Welding Procedure Qualification Record), and the preliminary procedure used for the test is the pWPS. weldXpert supports both worlds, so the terminology on your documents matches the standard you work to.

FAQ

Questions about PQR & WPQR.

What is the difference between a PQR and a WPQR?

Both record a successful welding procedure qualification test. PQR is the term used by ASME Section IX and AWS, WPQR the term used in the ISO system, for example ISO 15614-1. weldXpert supports ISO, ASME IX and AWS D1.1.

Can weldXpert find a PQR that fits a new WPS?

You filter your PQRs by material, thickness or values and see the candidates immediately. Your welding engineer selects the PQR, and weldXpert fills the WPS from it.

Does weldXpert decide whether a PQR is valid for a job?

No. weldXpert brings the relevant records and values together and keeps them traceable; the qualification decision stays with your welding engineer or coordinator.

Can we import our existing PQRs?

Yes. During onboarding our support team imports your existing data, so your current PQRs are available from the first day.

Who can see our procedure qualifications?

Only users of your account. Colleagues who only need to read documents can get read-only access through the doc viewer, and all data is stored in an ISO 27001 certified data centre in the EU.
